You visit the Temple of Literature, founded in 1070 and home to the first university of Vietnam, then Hoa Lo Prison, built by the French as a prison for political prisoners and later known to American prisoners of war as the "Hanoi Hilton". Two very different sides of Hanoi's history in one afternoon.

    Founded in 1070 to honour Confucius, the Temple of Literature became the first university of Vietnam. Courtyards of old trees and ponds lead past stone steles carved with the names of doctoral laureates, set on the backs of stone turtles.

    Hoa Lo Prison Museum

    Hoa Lo was first used by the French colonists in Indochina for political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for U.S. prisoners of war during the Vietnam War, when it was known to American POWs as the Hanoi Hilton. Today the remaining section is a museum.

  • Holiday surcharge +40% on New Year (31/12 – 02/01), Lunar New Year (28th of the last lunar month to the end of the 4th day of Tết), 30/4 – 1/5, Hung Kings Commemoration Day (29/04) and 2/9.
  • The order of the itinerary may change depending on the guide's arrangement, and the tour may finish a little earlier or later.
  • Optional cyclo ride or water puppet show can be added at the end of the tour.
